Events are distributed to several subscribed relays. Relays are quite dumb data stores, by design, they do nothing but forward messages from one user to another; clients don’t need to trust relays. That’s not to say a relay can’t dictate its own policies, but that’s up to the host. You have the option to use other relays. As for speed, relays themselves don’t do much as stated, it would mostly be up to the clients to demonstrate performance when handling/presenting messages.
