Actually, "do your protag support the status quo in their world?" assumes that change is possible and may be desirable. In my WIP, the entire concept of "progress" is inapplicable on the largest scale—the arrow of time has been abolished, all our history telescoped into an eye-blink, so that a flint hand axe and a Soyuz capsule are legacy designs of near-identical antiquity and applicability.
