Nautilus. This TV show loosely inspired by Jules Verne's "20000 leagues under the sea" came recommended as an entertaining pulp series that won't make your brain bleed. So I suggested we watch it as a family. It may have been a mistake. It's not horrible, but it's also not very good. Is it entertaining? I suppose, if your suspension of disbelief threshold is very high. Generally speaking, the characters are good and the actors decent (with the possible exception of Georgia Flood (Humilty) who never shakes off the airhead mode despite being supposedly a brilliant engineer. The physical sets (inside the Nautilus, mainly) are good, the CGI (all the rest) somewhere between decent and terrible (the faces in the diving suits, ugh...) The plot feels a bit like a sandbox RPG game: "let's explore that hex!", "why not go there?" But really, the main gripe is that it's so riddled with clichés that it's quickly not fun anymore. We did watch it to the end, mainly because while Madeleine was fully aware of the clichés and inconsistencies, she still wanted to see where the story went. #tv #steampunk #pulp #julesverne
