My host mom died soon after I lived with them, very suddenly from a stroke or aneurysm (never did manage to pin down the exact translation). I was with them for ceremonies the year after her death. I hear her and host dad’s advice to me all the time in my head. They are both long passed but I often think about what it took for them to open their home and hearts to me.
