You're under no obligation to tell them of course but I'm curious if they even considered the risk to their patrons and their business by putting AI in a safety role.

It wasn't until your post that I considered the safety considerations of a restaurant phone contact. This is a perfect example of AI risk, leaking into safety-significant areas where it doesn't belong because nobody selling or buying these things understood the roles humans play in these positions. Or they know and just don't care because it saves or makes them money.

I work in nuclear safety and we have pretty strict requirements and acceptance criteria for safety related systems. I don't worry much about AI in these roles because there's no way AI systems could pass even the most rudimentary checks. I more worry about AI leaking in via corporate training, etc. where the standards and regulations are much weaker. And even if we do a good job defending against AI risks, we rely on vendors and contractors who may not be as vigilant.

So thanks for sharing your story; hopefully you'll find better restaurants that take the care and effort to not send you to the hospital.
