I don't have any meaningful connections with these people.
Unfortunately doing something along those lines is similar to a common scam tactic. Like telling them to contact X for Y. So that may scare them off.
I wouldn't be too concerned though this dog seemed to have gone viral. I would be surprised if it's not adopted by Monday.
