Maybe I could help them rewrite "But as history has repeatedly proven, 'elected' socialists have a strong tendency to turn into unelected heads of communist regimes" replacing socialist with populist and communist with fascist.
And I feel confident about using "elected" to refer obliquely to Trump's 2016 "win", even disregarding Russian meddling, because shouldn't a populist actually manage to win the popular vote?
