“Like many other fans and aficionados, I regarded Michael as a preternaturally gifted musician whose own sense of dedication and drive to perfection pushed him to some uncanny heights in his career. And like everyone else who saw him perform live, I stood slack-jawed at every incredible solo he took on the bandstand. And because Michael was so kind and humble—self-effacing, in fact—and had such a quick wit and a wry sense of humor, he was widely beloved by fans and colleagues alike, which makes it so painful to bear the circumstances of his tragic demise in 2007. Mike touched my life, musically and personally.”
