Yep. There was this one novel ("The Clan Corporate", written 2004) that I outlined exhaustively (the outline was eventually 10% the length of the finished book).
Only I couldn't stick to the outline past 30%, and then the editor made me change the ending anyway.
Pantsing it is just more time-efficient. (And these days I use Scrivener so I have a retroactive outline—of what I've written—to refer back to.)
