I just wanted to share this experience. I owed state taxes for 2021 here in the U.S. and forgot about it. Yea its my fault and i should have not forgotten and should have taken care of it then. I got a bank garnishment letter about 9 months later, and so did the bank on the same day. There was no reacting quick because about an hour after i got the letter, the money was gone. My other bill money, my grocery money, my gas money etc. Thinking linerally, i was not only angry at myself but also angry that the state government was able to take control of my money, and my peace of mind. How was i gonna pay bills, and buy food. They garnished not only my main account but any accounts linked to it (at the same bank of course). Then i had a light a lightbulb moment. The anger vanished when i realized that i had a stack of savings that cannot be taken by any government or bank, or any other 3rd party for that matter. I remember feeling a sense of power in that moment. It is one thing to just plainly hold your own wealth, and after awhile it seems cliche until something like this happens to you. I had money that i was in full control over. No one could wave their magic wand and take it from me. Yes, i owed it and should have paid it. I created my own headache. Of course i paid the rest of what was due and paid the bills i was worried over. I just wanted to share.
