I wanted a simple hobby so I chose ham radio. The question is why?

I read about people using a simple receiver made using a cats whisker. I immediately ran out and procured a cat figuring I would have plenty of spare whiskers because cats shed them in there normal course of living.

To date I have hundreds of cat whiskers and have never heard anything when I connect an antenna to them. My cat on the other hand is very vocal.
