This is *not* a negative subtoot, but a real question, since a few folks are giving away HTs to new hams. And of course it's driven by my own interests, but I don't mean to knock VHF and up.

What's the evolution of something like this toward HF, *or*, what's the next step to help new VHF+ hams toward, beyond talking on the local repeater?

Is giving away HF rigs and antennas something that makes sense?
