It's not in their interests to unfortunately. If Meta fully integrates threads and people start noticing they can converse in or out of threads and not have to put up with the ads etc they might decide to hop on another fediverse instance. Then Meta (or really any big platform) has lost it's real product, the user data and eyeballs for ads. So they just piecemeal, pr step things to look cool and being at the forefront and try to maintain their mostly islands.
