"The line between a normal, functioning society and catastrophic decivilization can be crossed with a single act of mayhem."
One thing about these takes that has been driving me a bit bonkers is that a "normal, functioning society" is positively filled with "mayhem," you just don't have to see it or care about it because of privilege. Not having to see or care about the harms it inflicts seems like a pretty key component to a "functioning" society.
