I can whole heartedly recommend Xubuntu. It's fast, 1 minute faster in loading than Mint on a crappy old HP laptop which quite frankly has always been slow.
Anyway I have now upgraded the hard drive to SSD and from cold start, to usable laptop is now only 35 seconds.
At that speed I don't have to suspend it any more. Also I now have a laptop that is usable for browsing and email.
The 128GB SSD cost less than €13 from AliExpress.
