The very very very short of it is that the philosophies of cooperatives and Free Software share an uncanny amount of fundamental values, such as #freedom, #sharing, #community, #democracy, #autonomy, #learning, and #cooperation.

They both even have a litmus test: the seven cooperative principles and the four essential freedoms of Free Software.
