My personal experience is that I was socially ostracized by the boys because I refused to stop being feminine and I refused to feel guilty about it. So after all the hazing, they finally gave up and pushed me into a feminine "other" category.

But because of sex segregated spaces and being closeted and not able to look and dress the way I wanted, I wasn't accepted in the girl's social space either. And this is a terrible limbo for a trans child or teenager to end up in.
