@Johannes Ernst Nor will the development and, most importantly, standardisation of #ActivityPub pick up anytime soon.
I hate to say it, but currently, the "ActivityPub standard" is defined as "whatever Mastodon does whichever way", and of all ActivityPub projects, Mastodon seems the most conservative, the least willing to introduce any new features, especially not things that other projects already have, and the least willing to cooperate with other projects.
Even if a form of nomadic identity for ActivityPub upon which everyone agrees should emerge, even if just about every project that's actively maintained and not Mastodon introduces it, I expect Mastodon to decline it without a comment. And I expect lots of Mastodon users to demand it never be introduced because it'd make Mastodon too complicated, or because someone has thought up a way to use it for harassment purposes.
