The lesson of this: NEVER CLICK ON ADS FOR ANY REASON.
Seriously.
I’m not a victim-blamer, this is simply good advice which has always been good advice for as long as there has been advertising on the Internet. The fact that people have not been willing to hear and follow it for 30 years is as much the fault of the broader society as it is of the individuals clicking.
I am entirely aware that if everyone actually followed this advice, my career would end.
