I think this is part of the college experience, at least in the States, and for a lot of people their time at college is an extended adolescence. Once they hit 'the real world' they learn a lot about life many lessons that I think would've been learned at a younger and now understanding real life consequences too to previous things.
So in their head, they assume the same thing for everyone else. I've seen this with myself and my own group of friends. The exception being maybe that black sheep who didn't get to go to college who struggled more, but had it a bit more put together.
It's crazy meeting people younger than me who have such a crazy amount of life experiences and learned so many wonderful and useful skills around the same time I just sat in a building learning about the history of art to get a degree in computer science that I never ended up using.
If I sounds a little bitter and biased about the college experience. I very much am.
