I can't quite explain it, but the 1920s and 1930s, despite the economic situation in the 1930s, feel like they were quite hopeful about the future
like, they seemed to pretty clearly distinguish between the economic nonsense from the overall technological progress that was making the world rapidly better, and they envisioned the future being just.. so much better than their own times, in a way??
