That's such a throwback and has layers of weird notions of social class and "morals" baked in it.
Eating spicy food literally used to be associated with being trashy and having low moral status...for all the usual stupid reasons people associate innocuous things with immorality...a mix of classism and xenophobia.
Odds are people who feel naughty about spicy food don't know why that thought even exists in their head. 😂
