Define “racially motivated.” Are you looking for explicit manifestos stating that black children at your door will be shot because you’re racist? Then you are looking in the wrong place.

Innocent teenagers are only a source of fear in a racialized society, a structurally embedded tacit racism that ‘justifies’ unwarranted suspicion as ‘self defense.’ The same racialization that enables many who have, indeed, written racist manifestos before shooting to get off scot free.

Time for a new phrase.
