I'm honestly afraid about the day that bacteria or fungi evolve the ability to digest plastic. It would be disruptive, and in a very bad way.
If the bacteria that does it first is staphylococcus aureus, just surrender. It'll form a zerg-like consciousness that envelopes the entire planet, then figures out FTL travel and eventually converts the entire universe to staphylococcus aureus spores.
