I guess what a lot of people do is just buy a house with an attached hangar that has runway access to a privately owned public airport. You can get a pretty decent place at an air park community for a few hundred grand. I've also found a couple places with hangars and grass strips for as low as 300k but I'm not sure how legit those setups actually are. Last thing you need is the county breathing down your neck every time you try to use your own property. Millions will get you far. Here's what $1.9 million will get you in Connecticut; a house, several hangars, a flight training center and 2200 feet of runway on 55 acres of land. Not bad.
