So the people who moved to America in the 19th and early 20th century were largely farmers, the unemployed and people generally who couldn't make their way in Europe. It was likely the opposite of the best and the brightest. They did however have sufficient drive to make it to the US.
The people who emigrated to the US later on likely stayed in the cities, as they were not farmers.
Is this not reflected in the elections? The behavior of the farmland people very different from the city people.
