The 787-8 was on GE, not Boeing—it was an engine compressor surge. Windscreens crack fairly often: that's why there are at least 3 separate panes of glass in front of the pilots.
(This does not in any way negate Boeing's disastrous QA slippage since 2020. Just, these are not specifically Boeing problems.)
