It was a small old falling down house that apparently had been grandfathered in before some new ordinances and regulations. Well the new owners wanted to put a new house on the lot, but didn't want to bring the place up to code. So they built the new house as a shell around the old house as "an addition", then demolished the old house and carried it back out. Though I don't know what sorts of horrors they might have done in the construction to have it fit all the way over and around the old house.
