For those who are hopeful that there might be a silver lining to the destruction of USAID in the form of American imperialism being reigned in, you should know that basically one guy is fully in charge of essentially the entire State department apparatus for foreign aid and USAID right now. Peter Marocco is a return figure from Trump 1, and he is now basically the sole decision maker of US foreign policy. His MO during Trump 1 was to meet with Christian terrorist and paramilitary groups, even those opposed to US interests, to try to figure out how use US foreign policy assets to help them overthrow democratic governments. The Balkans are a particular interest of his, where he secretly and without permission met with anti-democracy Christian extremists.
The empire isn't being unwound per se: everything that isn't the global Crusade is being cut so that the Crusade can be fueled everywhere.
