Train tickets in the UK are a *MESS*
I'm currently looking at a direct ticket for a 5 hour journey: 2 adults + 2 kids costs £331 for an anytime single. If I book in advance I can get it for £81 - still perhaps more expensive than driving, but ok.
I slightly edited the journey to be a 6 hour journey to a nearby town. The £81 ticket disappears. It's now £350 - or I can stick with the old £81 advance purchase and pay an extra £20 to get there. 🤷♀️
I know this. But how on earth is someone not familiar with the UK supposed to book trains?
