I would say, and probably have said in previous conversations about this, that the term "Christian" has meant a lot of different things to a lot of folks over the course of history, and in that name, people have waged "holy" war, mounted pogroms against Jewish people, slaughtered Muslims, blessed slavery, executed "witches" and "heretics," etc.

Those engaging in these behaviors did so as Christians in the name of Christianity.
