Some people just have to advertise how *progressive* they are.
*Look at me! I have a (insert demographic here) friend*. They think they're making themselves look interesting by proxy, but they're only inviting purity spirals. The bar is set so high, there's no point even trying. To play is to lose.
I remember reading a Graun puff piece in the 90s (I think) that effectively said that nobody could be considered a card-carrying liberal unless they were in a mixed-race relationship, worked in the charity sector, had volunteered in a disaster zone and had had a close friend who died of AIDS.
I'm trying to imagine the list today.
