You can not welcome everybody equally, so you need to pick and choose which people you want your project to be associated with.
The problem starts when kicked people raise a stink about you elsewhere on a new channel to a new audience. You can not reach that audience yourself with your normal channels, so you feel the need to answer on that new channel :-(
