Sometimes people will use the analogy of a butterfly emerging from a cocoon when talking about transitioning. The thing is, with actual butterflies, when the caterpillar is in the chrysalis it just kind of dissolves into a chaotic soup of miscellaneous caterpillar bits that somehow reforms itself into a butterfly.
