I had a very nice wool-lined pair of leather gloves made by Low Alpine when I went through a snowboarding phase. Actually, I think I still have them. Quite bulky though and you lose an element of dexterity with them. However, I’m assuming this is for UK winters and so those will probably be overkill. A lot will depend on conditions and intended use.
