Spotted (and heard) at a screening of Seven Samurai in a delightful art deco cinema in small city Aotearoa New Zealand:

A man (80s+) taking his teenage grandson to watch a film he saw for the first time at 15. Is beaming ear to ear at his grandson's excited chatter as they leave.

A strident female voice in the audience exclaiming "What's so bad about millet?!" during a scene where the villagers bemoan their millet eating fate after their rice has been stolen. The cinema breaks into laughter.

A woman (30s?) falling fast asleep with her head on her partner's shoulder for 3 hours while he happily munches popcorn and enjoys the movie. At the end, she yawns and says "I needed that. Did you enjoy?" He nods and says "Come on, I'll take you home."

A woman (40s) saying to her partner "There was a lot more bottom in it that I was expecting," as they get up to leave. He asks, "Are you complaining." She grins. "Nope!"

Any typos in this thread have been caused by the sheer awe of seeing Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai in the cinema for the first time. It's amazing. If spotted, please placate with popcorn, or failing that an enlarged picture of Toshiro Mifune's excellent vintage buttocks.

If you're in New Zealand, there's a Kurosawa film festival doing the rounds and if this screening was any indication, the remastered versions are excellent. If you've never seen a Kurosawa film, what a treat! If you have, still a treat😊
