We hardly even notice it anymore but there should be something deeply unpleasant and disturbing to anyone about the way marketing has made "exclusivity" into such an omnipresent selling argument.
Doesn't it tell us something about the uglyness of our times that we have found a way to imbue the notion of exclusion with positive connotations? That basic impulse that taps into that makes people think "there are people who can't have it, therefore this is more valuable to me" should make any mildly sympathetic people's skin crawl.
