I was walking a beach on Kauai last year and seeing all the new construction by a major hotel chain. And I remarked to my companion "surely a big company like that must have some actuaries somewhere who know that sooner or later these beachfront properties are going to be washed away? They're acting in public like it'll never happen, but somewhere someone has gotta be calculating insurance costs and knows the truth, right?" ... "Right?"
