Was discussing with my wife kids films that “went hard,” using some sort of traumatic experience to launch the narrative.
My experience with the ‘genre’ started with “The Earthling” (1980), courtesy of a summer movie program, in which we see Ricky Schroder’s parents die in a horrific accident before he has to survive by himself in the outback far away from civilization.
One of my siblings can likely claim “Once Upon a Forest” (1993), which I took them to see as part of a summer movie program.
