Agreed. Surgeons don't do nurse work unless they have no other choice.
Surgeons spending time on nurse work is opportunity cost.
ADHD people do have super ninja focus. It's a horrible name. It's not a deficit of attention and it's not a disorder either, so I renamed it years ago.
I call it CHARR: Cognitive Hyperactivity with Attentional Resource Reallocation.
I view the pool of one's attentional resources like a pie chart. Typically, a certain amount of one's attention is allocated to each of the senses,
ADHD people seem to be able to reallocate that pie chart such that attentional resources are reallocated from one sensory system to another.
A typical ADHD moment is when the ADHD person has reallocated attentional resources to the eyes from the ears. At this point the ears are in "emergency mode" only. During this period of visual super ninja focus, the ADHD person may "block out" many sounds. Bloodcurdling screams, alarms, sirens, loud banging, or direct address (hearing their own name) may be enough to pull them out of this state, however anything short of that will fail to impact their attention.
ADHD people 200 years ago would have been regarded as top tier scouts, hunters, trackers, explorers, and warriors, among other roles well suited to the ADHD neurology. Today, ADHD people are surrounded by sensory stimulation. Noise drowns out signal and noise can easily annoy ADHD people because it obfuscates their ability to identify targets of interest, threats, etc.
