Yes, anyone who mines a key with leading zeros 000000 will have a key that appears the same black. However, there are potential workarounds for this issue. For example, one could strip the leading zeros. Alternatively, I think a better approach would be to create a dual-color identifier for each contact by combining the first and last characters of the key. This could be represented as a pill with two distinct colors or a blended 50/50 color scheme.
Hashbow and the Reis proposal are interesting, I believe the primary goal here is to establish a standardized convention that works across different clients, allowing users to recognize their contacts by their unique colors. If an implementation deviates from this standard, it may confuse users. In my opinion, the simplest and most straightforward way to achieve this is to pick the colors directly from the hexpub.
