The English Standard Version has been my go to this year, though I've also been happy with the NIV and NLT translations.
I get the allure of the older translations, but understanding what the bible is trying to tell you is hard enough without intentionally taking something that's written in older styles of English. I am a big fan of having multiple translations to compare however.
