It's in the story (sort of). Most people who actually think about it for five minutes instead of trying to make a snappy gotcha for a YouTube video come to the conclusion that the Cthulhu the boat crashed into wasn't real, either a projection or a hallucination created by fear. We know it wasn't actually him because the story itself says that when he's alive/awake lots of weird shit happens like literally everything stops dying, and also he's been asleep/dead for millions of years and probably won't wake up for a long time as well.
