When feeding ants it's important to check how fat they are. Ants horde everything, and if you give them more food than they can use right away the largest workers will fill their gasters until they are distended and then sleep in the nest. With such reserves many colonies could last for weeks with no food at all.
For simple insects they have so much foresight and resilience. Ants are amazing.
