There are negotiations between Israelis, Egyptians, Americans, and Qataris in Paris about a humanitarian pause in fighting in Gaza to allow for the exchange of hostages with Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has stated he will not accept any deal that requires Israeli troops to leave Gaza without achieving "total victory" over Hamas, but Hamas is considering the proposal. In another event, American soldiers were killed and 40 others wounded in a strike on a base in Jordan known as Tower 22 which supports American operations in Iraq and Syria, with evidence pointing to Kataib Hizbullah, an Iranian-backed Iraqi militia, being responsible. Israel claims the raid prevented an imminent attack, but a doctor at the hospital said one of the men was receiving medical treatment, with experts believing that Israel's ruse probably violated the laws of war. Finally, the Iranian-backed Houthis attacked more merchant ships linked to America and Britain off the coast of Yemen, while America carried out more air strikes on Houthi targets, highlighting continued tensions in the region.
