Yes RE5 replaces the humor and charm of the original RE4 with a serious and dark tone, and it also escapes the nostalgia glasses of those who grew up playing RE4, but RE5 improves on every other front of the RE4 formula. A simply better game, technically. Not that RE5 avoids having any flaws (not a perfect game or design), but RE5 offers overall a purer and more intense version of RE4 mechanics.
