Perhaps; if you use a higher voltage across that boundary and switching regulators, you can produce a lot of lower-voltage current if you need it.

Another possibility is to just say "hey you get only 2 A, if you need more than that your board needs an auxiliary power connector" and then provide some place to get raw input power from (a header or something). Think, something like the extra power plugs near the CPU or on GPUs on modern PCs.
