Been reading the history of Jersey (isle of). It’s an interesting case study of how events far away (English Civil War) has an effect on the small island. They are actually one of the last places to stay loyal to the King, in fact Charles II stays there for a while during his exile, before his failed attempt to take the throne.
When he the monarchy is eventually restored, he gave his island benefactor a colony in America. And that’s how New Jersey came to be.
