Next up, we got Daniel Valentine on a comprehensive 3D eclipse map of WASP-17 b — a super puffy hot Jupiter.

So normally, we look at an eclipse but that gives us one spectrum - basically averaged over the entire planet. But instead, mapping, as the name suggests, maps the planets “slices”.

So instead of assuming a uniform planetary surface, the signal is modelled through spherical harmonics, showing us temperature differences and also hotspot offset through a jet. #exoplanets5
