Ad-based monetization and VCs have absolutely poisoned our minds. Maintainers need to be paid. It requires adding friction to get people to pay. That’s just real life. Without being “intrusive” nobody steps up. Realistically projects only need like 5% of users to contribute, but they just don’t.
